"October
23, 1956, is a day that will live forever in the annals of free men
and nations. It was a day of courage, conscience and triumph. No
other day since history began has shown more clearly the eternal
unquenchability of man's desire to be free, whatever the odds against
success, whatever the sacrifice required."
-
John F. Kennedy, on the
first anniversary of
the
Hungarian
Revolution
Nearly a half century has passed since the streets of Budapest
flowed with the blood of her young Freedom Fighters, in a struggle
to break the yoke of communist tyranny and to secure basic human
freedoms.
The Cleveland Hungarian Revolution 50th Anniversary
Committee (CHR50) is organizing a major observance event of this
important historical milestone on October 21st and 22nd, 2006 in
Cleveland, Ohio.

Cleveland is an ethnically diverse city with over
180,000 citizens of proud Hungarian heritage. At
this half century mark, we feel it proper that we come together
to commemorate, to reflect and to celebrate.

Special thanks go out to our sponsors, without whose contributions
we would not be able to commemorate and celebrate the events of 1956
and the men and women who risked, and often sacrificed, their lives
in the pursuit of a free Hungary. CHR50 welcomes both individual
and corporate sponsorships. Click
here to view a listing
of sponsors who have been exceedingly generous in helping us pay
tribute to those whose courage paved the way for a free Hungary,
and proved to the world that, however imposing,
even the most ruthless forms of tyranny can be challenged successfully
by no more than the will of common citizens to be free.

Our sincere thanks to the many freedom loving Hungarians who sacrificed so that there could be a free and democratic Hungary and Europe, and to the over 7,000 Hungarians who came to Cleveland in 1956 and helped build a strong community for all.
